Last night Eli Stone’s second season premiered. Eli Stone was probably the biggest surprise of last season and I was glad that it has finally returned. While I was excited about the show I was also worried since I thought it was going to struggle once again in the ratings and the show would be cancelled. It turns out that I wasn’t wrong since Eli Stone didn’t do great in the ratings. It didn’t do quite as bad as I thought it would but the show will need to improve (in the rating) in order to stay on ABC’s regular schedule.
Even though the ratings were far from encouraging it was still a great episode of Eli Stone in my opinion and everyone who did watch it were in for a treat since Eli Stone is a charming little show that I wish more people would give a chance.
The episode begins with Eli talking with a therapist about the last six months since his surgery. Supposedly everything has gone back to normal except Eli imagined being stuck in a broadway musical. Eli is back at work but he can’t practice law until he passes a psychological test. Everything in the office is also returning to normal. Nathan is also moving on with his life and is actually moving in with his girlfriend. This normalcy is all rocked when Nathan ends up having a vision of a crane crashing into a bank. (I don’t know if it is just me but Nathan’s visions are pretty boring in general.)
Nathan thinks he is going crazy but it just so happens that the crane does collapse into the bank. Jordan is trapped in the bank (he was meeting with some clients). Eli takes Nathan to Dr. Chen’s so he can relive the vision and hopefully find Jordan. Nathan finds out that Jordan is trapped in the stairwell after dropping his clients (from a corrupt bank). Eli tries to get the search team to check the stairs but they refuse. Eli decides to use the court to force them to. Taylor doesn’t believe him and she actually faces off against him in court.
The case doesn’t go well and Nathan actually collapses with an anurism. Eli then gets a call from the courts that he didn’t complete his psychological test. Eli meets with his therapist and he quickly finds out that he has been envisioning her the whole time. It turns out that she is the messenger of a higher power. She tells Eli that either he or Nathan will get the visions. Eli decides to take the visions back. Eli proceeds to convince Taylor to have the rescue people check the stairs and they find Jordan alive. Eli heads to the doctor to find out that Nathan doesn’t have an anurism but his anurism has returned. Eli heads to the hospital to visit Jordan and Jordan tells Eli that he has a plan for what they are supposed to do next.
While this wasn’t the best Eli Stone episode I think it was still a very good episode. What I really like about Eli Stone is that it is such an uplifting show. Television is really missing uplifting shows. With everything going on in the world today I think it is good to be able to watch a television show that is so uplifting.
One thing I am really liking about the second season is that it appears that others (such as Jordan) are going to help Eli with his mission to make the world better. I actually have a feeling that Eli, Jordan and Maggie could leave the law firm and actually start their own law firm that exclusively helps out the little guys that need their help the most.
So what are your thoughts on the second season premiere of Eli Stone? Do you like where the second season is going? Also what do you think of the subpar ratings? Do you think the show will be cancelled or it will rebound enough to gain a steady audience and get another season?
