Last night Eli Stone’s run on television came to an end. From a series that I originally didn’t give much of a shot, it has definitely been a fun ride for Eli Stone. I always knew Eli Stone didn’t have much chance of television. It just came before it’s time. I think Eli Stone was unsuccessful since it dared to be uplifting about the future and showed that the world can be improved for the better. That for some reason doesn’t sit well with Americans who for some reason would rather see people killed week after week on crime dramas and celebrity train wrecks instead of watching a well written legal drama about changing the world for the better. But I digress since there is nothing that can be done about Eli Stone anymore.
As far as last night’s Eli Stone series finale I have to admit that I was disappointed. The episode wasn’t terrible but I didn’t see it as much of a series finale. As a matter of fact I think the episode acted just like another episode of Eli Stone. It would have made for a good season finale but I have to say that it was a disappointment for a series finale.
What I didn’t like about the finale is that there was little to no closure in the episode. Eli was able to have a meaningful conversation with his father about his mission and God but I personally wanted more. I wanted to see what would happen in the future. Eli Stone has had visions about his future in the past. I wanted another one of these visions to end the series that would have given us a glimpse of what happened to all the characters. I would also liked to have seen a glimpse of the new better world that Eli helped create.
If a vision of the future wasn’t on the table I actually would have accepted an ending with Eli dying using one of his visions to save a bunch of people. While it seemed like that could have been a possibility for a little while, I knew it wasn’t going to happen.
I can understand the finale choice if the writers weren’t given enough time to change the final episode into a series finale but I think I heard that the writers knew ahead of time that the final episode would be the series finale. If that was the case I wish the writers would have given us more closure.
I might sound a little harsh on the finale but that is because I was a big fan of the show and I wanted to see it go out on a great episode. The episode wasn’t bad but it could have been better. I think the writer’s could have created a truly remarkable series finale and we are left with a solid series finale.
I do have to say that Eli Stone was still a great ride which I wish would have lasted longer. Eli Stone was one of those unique shows that you rarely find on television. While it might not have lasted long, Eli Stone was still a great series that I will remember for quite a long time.
What were your thoughts on the series finale of Eli Stone? How are you going to remember Eli Stone?

I was disappointed as well. I wanted to see Eli with Maggie a little bit more, and in a romantic light. Those pictures at the end alluded to them being together, but not completely. I was hoping for a flash forward to that rally they were at in one of his visions, with Maggie holding his baby. I read that the writers wrote that episode before the show was canceled, so that’s why we don’t get that greater sense of a finale. I’m really bummed that this show was canceled. In a world like ours, we need the positive outlook that this show had.
