Imagine for a second that you have just been named president of ABC and can do whatever you want with their schedule. You can bring back shows from the past or keep some of the ones that are currently airing. What would your dream schedule look like? This is mine.
Note: I’ve only been watching television religiously for the past five years so some of these shows I have listed I haven’t even seen. For shows I haven’t seen, I will only include ones that I’ve heard great things about (ex. “Three’s Company”).
Sunday:
- 7/6c-America’s Funniest Home Videos
- 8/7c-Ugly Betty
- 9/8c-Desperate Housewives
- 10/9c-Grey’s Anatomy
My dream Sunday is actually made up of all currently running shows. “America’s Funniest Home Videos” isn’t one of the funniest shows on television anymore but it is a Sunday tradition and still deserves a spot on my list. Before “Ugly Betty” aired, I wasn’t planning on watching it because I thought it would be incredibly stupid. Thankfully, I read some positive reviews, gave it a chance, and loved it from the first episode. “Desperate Housewives” is another Sunday staple and I disagree with people who think it has gone downhill. This season is the best since the first even if the “mystery” isn’t all that great. “Grey’s Anatomy,” on the other hand, is going downhill and it will even get worse if T.R. Knight is allowed out of his contract. Still, season two was one of the best seasons of television I have ever seen in my life. Since it aired after “Desperate Housewives” that season, I have returned it to its rightful spot.
Monday:
- 8/7c-Monday Night Football
As a huge football fan (if I had to choose either TV or the Green Bay Packers, I would take the Packers in a heartbeat), “Monday Night Football” definitely deserves a place on my dream schedule. The franchise isn’t as good as it once was, especially now that it is on ESPN, but it still deserves to be here.
Tuesday:
- 8/7c-Home Improvement
- 8:30/7:30c-The Drew Carey Show
- 9/8c-Whose Line Is It Anyway?
- 9:30/8:30c-Spin City
- 10/9c-Pushing Daisies
I wish ABC could return to its sitcom roots because they have been home to some of my favorite comedies of all-time. Until “How I Met Your Mother” came along, “Home Improvement” was my favorite comedy that ever aired. I also loved “The Drew Carey Show,” “Whose Line Is It Anyway?,” and “Spin City.” Capping off the night is a recent show that died way too soon. “Pushing Daisies” was so original, so magical, and very funny. It is a perfect ending to a wonderful night of comedy.
Wednesday:
- 8/7c-Lost
- 9/8c-Alias
- 10/9c-MacGyver
After “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Lost” is my favorite show of all-time. I loves shows that are completely original and always have you wondering what is going to happen next. Even though “Alias” dropped in quality as its seasons went by, it is still a perfect companion to “Lost.” Ending the night is “MacGyver,” a show I’ve watched very few episodes of but loved what I saw.
Thursday:
- 8/7c-Eli Stone
- 9/8c-The Practice
- 10/9c-NYPD Blue
I know “Pushing Daisies” is the cancelled ABC show that received the most mourning but personally I preferred “Eli Stone.” I like shows that make you feel good and make you want to help make the world a better place. “Eli Stone” made me feel that way. Following “Eli” are two dramas I’ve seen very little of but know are great.
Friday:
- 8/7c-Full House
- 8:30/7:30c-Complete Savages
- 9/8c-Roseanne
- 9:30/8:30c-Doogie Howser, M.D.
- 10/9c-Three’s Company
- 10:30/9:30c-Dharma & Greg
ABC really should bring back the TGIF block of comedies, they can’t do any worse on the night. Other than “Complete Savages” and “Dharma & Greg,” I haven’t seen much of any of these comedies so I’m going on word-of-mouth. I know you are wondering what “Complete Savages” is doing on my list but I personally thought it was laugh-out-loud funny. I’m sure most of you thought it was stupid but I loved it and wished it would have gotten more than one season.
Saturday:
- 8/7c-Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?
- 9/8c-The Mole
- 10/9c-Wipeout
I miss “Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?” and really hope the rumors that it is coming back are true. It was the best game show of all-time and definitely deserves a spot on my schedule. “The Mole” is the best reality show of all-time and “Wipeout” is just plain good fun.
What would your dream schedule look like? Feel free to post yours in the comments section. Who knows, we might even post your schedule on the blog if you want us to. You can find a list of all the shows ABC has aired here (their current shows can be found here).
