You know the economy must be bad when it starts hitting some of our favorite television shows. No Desperate Housewives didn’ take any budget cuts but this week’s episode pretty much exclusively focussed on how the economy affected some of the housewives. While Lynette and Susan struggle for money, Bree and Gaby show off their new found wealth. Even though the economy is quite depressing right now, I thought this was a good episode since it let us forget about all the financial troubles for an hour and instead have some laughs.

Susan’s Quest to Get MJ Into Private School: I have to say that it is about time that Susan finally got a job. Yes I know that she always had a job but she never really seemed to ever work. While now we get to see Susan actually work on the show. I applaud Susan for doing everything she could to get MJ into the private school but I am disappointed in her behavior towards Mike. While it was funny when Susan stole the diamonds from Katherine, I don’t know why Susan would think Mike would put his girlfriend before his son. It was also kind of inconsiderate when she thought Mike could work longer hours even though he was pretty much working 24/7 when she really didn’t even have a job.

The Business Partnership:  Tom crying over his lost car like he lost a loved one was the best part in my opinion. Otherwise Lynette and Bree really should know that money does come in the way of friendships. While this week’s storyline wasn’t bad,  I don’t know if I really like the direction that Bree is headed. She has always been a showoff, but now she is starting to act like she is better than everyone else.

The Weight Loss Boot Camp: Like usual, Gaby’s storyline was mostly added for humor. Gaby decides to join a weight loss boot camp in order to lose weight in order to fit in a dress that she used to wear. Gaby gets over her head and ends up trying to quit even though the trainer won’t let her. Gaby eventually loses the weight but she realizes that she is starting to turn back into the person she used to be and she is unhappy. While I don’t mind that Gaby and Carlos are becoming rich again, I hope the past has changed them so they don’t go back to exactly what they were in the past. Both Gaby and Carlos have become better people over the past couple of years so I am hoping that they don’t revert back to their old selves.

Tom Versus Dave: First of all I have to say that I am happy that we have been seeing more and more of Bob and Lee lately. While they shouldn’t be regulars, they are interesting characters and almost always give the show some laughs every episode they are in. I am wondering why the show is using them more though. Either the show is using them more since people like them or they are using them more since something is going to happen to one of them. With how mentally unstable Dave is, I wouldn’t be surprised that Tom confronting him either leads him to institute his plan earlier than planned or that he will lash out against Tom, Bob or Lee.

Quotes:

Lynette: “We can no longer afford Tom’s midlife crisis.”

Gaby: “Times are good.”
Edie: “Not for her.”

Gaby: “I’m puking air.”

Lynette: “You’ll still be a celebrity in 5 minutes.”
