Back in the 1990’s a little show named Dave’s World aired on CBS. For those of you who have never heard of Dave’s World, it is based on the writings of Pulitzer Prize winning writer Dave Barry. Joining Dave is his wife, two boys, and his two best friends. Things are never boring in Dave’s life which leads him to always have material for his weekly Miami newspaper column. I reviewed the first season of Dave’s World back in August and I would say the second season is very similar to the first.
I am taking a guess here but I doubt many of you have ever heard of Dave’s World. I had actually never heard of the series until I received the first season back in August. The show lasted four seasons so it must have had a decent fan base in order to last that long. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the show the best way to describe Dave’s World is to call it a family sitcom. Dave’s World is very similar to shows such as Home Improvement, and According to Jim.
The family sitcom was pretty prevalent in the 1990’s and previous decades but the genre really has started to die out recently. I don’t know why but it is very hard to find a good family sitcom on television today. So with that said I think fans of the family sitcom should enjoy the second season of Dave’s World. It isn’t the most original sitcom ever but it holds to the formula pretty well and does end up providing quite a few laughs (as long as it is your type of humor). If you like family sitcoms you should like Dave’s World.
I did have two problems about the series though. The first problem is that there are no special features on this DVD set. I find it disappointing that Paramount couldn’t scrape up at least something for a special feature. The second problem is actually much more prevalent. Maybe it was just my DVD set but I was disappointed by the video quality. It’s been a while since I have seen a TV show from the 1990’s but I would have to imagine that the video quality could have been improved. The video just appeared grainy to me. The grainy picture was kind of distracting but didn’t ruin the show.
So my recommendation for Dave’s World pretty much comes down to one criteria. Are you a fan of family sitcoms? If you aren’t, Dave’s World won’t change your mind and you shouldn’t pick it up. If you are a fan of family sitcoms though I can’t imagine you not liking Dave’s World. With the lack of family sitcoms on today, I would recommend to every fan of the genre to pick up the second season of Dave’s World.
