Growing up in the 90’s there were several comedies that stood out to me (Home Improvement for example). Dave’s World was simply not one of them. Actually before receiving Dave’s World in the mail I had actually never heard of the show. I had never heard of the show but that doesn’t mean that it wasn’t a good show. I actually was extremely surprised by the show.
Dave’s World is similar to your normal family comedy. Dave Barry is a humor journalist at the local newspaper. He never has trouble finding material though. Surrounded by his perky wife Beth, his sons Tommy and Willie, his plastic surgeon friend Shel, and his boss Kenny. It’s just another day in Dave’s World.
Dave’s World is your generic family comedy and it doesn’t really stray too far from the typical family comedy. While this is a big con in most family comedies it isn’t quite as big of problem in Dave’s World. The premise for the show is not that original and many of the plots will seem familiar to family comedy fans but the show is still enjoyable.
The main reason I found Dave’s World entertaining is that it was pretty funny in my opinion. Each episode was consistent and that is always a plus in my opinion. The humor is typical of your general family comedy. Most of the humor comes from situations that most families encounter in their daily lives. Another plus is that the humor is also similar to most comedies from the 1990’s. I grew up in the 90’s so I have always liked 90’s comedies. Obviously there are better and funnier comedies but I thought Dave’s World was pretty funny.
Before ending the review I have to address one more concern. The fact that the DVD set has absolutely no DVD special features is a con for this DVD set. It isn’t that big of deal since I am not a huge fan of special features but it still would have been really nice for some special features to be added to the DVD set. It is forgivable in my opinion since the show aired in the early 90’s and it is hard enough for older shows to get DVD sets so you can forgive the fact that there are no special features.
I though Dave’s World The First Season was pretty good. It is not for everyone though. If you don’t like family comedies or comedies from the 1990’s you probably won’t like Dave’s World since both are very good descriptions of the show. If you like either though you should like Dave’s World. It’s not the best family comedy ever but I found it to be quite entertaining.
