The Ewing’s are back for another season. In the 10th season (out of a whopping 14 seasons) the backstabbing, lies, greed, and lust is back with force. Highlights include J.R. dealing with a mercenary and a familiar face returning to the ranch. There are plenty of surprises to go around for any Dallas fan in the 10th season of Dallas on DVD.
For those of you who aren’t that familiar with Dallas, it was a long running drama that ran between 1978 and 1991. Dallas was pretty much a primetime soap opera. With storylines that are taken right from soap operas, if you are a fan of soap operas I can’t imagine you not liking Dallas.
Seeing that this is a review of the 10th season of Dallas, as most people would probably assume; this DVD set is not really for anyone who hasn’t seen the previous 9 seasons. Dallas is a character drama after all and it is pretty hard to fully enjoy the show without seeing the previous seasons. So if you are interested in Dallas and have never seen the show I would recommend that you pick up the first season and try that. It just doesn’t really make any sense picking up the 10th season if you haven’t seen the previous 9 seasons.
Overall in my opinion Dallas is a decent show. In my opinion it is a little outdated (11 years out of it’s 14 year run aired before I was born). The show holds up pretty well but there are very few shows that don’t suffer at least a little as time passes. If you are a fan of soap opera type dramas I can’t imagine you not enjoying the 10th season of Dallas.
A bonus to anyone who purchases this DVD set is that you also get to enjoy 29 episodes which is almost unheard of compared to today’s television. In today’s television you are lucky to get 21-23 episodes per season. In this DVD set you get 29 episodes so you are definitely getting good bang for your buck. The episodes offset the fact that the DVD set has no special features to speak of.
So my recommendations for the 10th season of Dallas shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Since this is the 10th season I can’t recommend that you pick up the DVD set unless you have seen the previous 9 seasons. I honestly don’t know why you would want to see the 10th season anyway if you hadn’t seen the previous 9 seasons. If you are interested in Dallas I would recommend you give the first and second season a chance (it’s a two season DVD set). If you enjoy that you can continue working through the rest of the seasons. For those of you who have seen the first 9 seasons (either on DVD or when the show was on television) and enjoyed them, I can’t imagine you not enjoying the 10th season so I would recommend that you pick it up.
