“Camp Rock” the Disney Channel Original Movie is finally out on DVD. Camp Rock follows Mitchie who has always loved music and when she is given the opportunity to attend Camp Rock she is so excited. When she arrives at camp she pretends to be someone she isn’t in order to join the popular group. While improving her musical talents Mitchie also learns to be true to herself. Featuring the Jonas Brothers and many other musical performers, Camp Rock is set to rock.

Overall I found Camp Rock to be a below average movie. As you can probably tell by the cover and movie description I (20 year old male) am not really in the target demo for this movie. Since I am not in the target demo you really need to take this into consideration throughout the rest of this review.

Overall I didn’t think the plot was that great. The plot was very predictable and pretty corny as well. Camp Rock is your general Disney Channel Movie. Disney Channel Movies aren’t really meant for adults and are usually meant for children and teens. If you don’t like childish type movies you will not like Camp Rock.

While I didn’t really like the plot that much I do have to compliment the movie for having a moral lesson. Since this is a movie for children it is a good thing that the movie tries to teach kids a lesson. Camp Rock teaches people to just be themselves. This is a very good lesson in my opinion since I think everyone should be themselves instead of pretending to be someone else.

Overall the acting was pretty average. None of the actors are bad but none of them really stand out either. Since they are all younger actors this is forgivable. I was actually also a little surprised by the Jonas Brothers since they weren’t that bad of actors. Unless I am wrong (and you can correct me if I am wrong) but I believe the Jonas Brothers are musicians turned actors. One thing the actors could have improved upon were their lip syncing ability. You could tell at several points during the movie that the actors were lip syncing. Lip syncing isn’t the problem (pretty much every movie with singing uses lip syncing) but the fact that you could tell that they were since their lips didn’t go with the words that were being sung. This isn’t a huge problem and you might not even notice it if you don’t pay attention but I wanted to bring it up.

Since this movie is about music you know there would be a lot of music in it. I personally didn’t think the music would be very good since I personally aren’t a big fan of Disney Channel singers (one singer in particular is coming to mind that is currently way overrated in my opinion). I was actually a little surprised though since the music was pretty good.

As far as the special features are concerned I thought they were pretty average. There are essentially two types of special features on this DVD. There are the music special features that give you the ability to sing along with the songs from the movie and then there are the behind the scenes special features. These are your typical behind the scenes special features. If you want to find out more about how the movie was made these might be entertaining for you.

Overall I thought Camp Rock was a below average movie. That doesn’t mean that you won’t like the movie. If you like Disney Channel movies or family movies in general you will probably like Camp Rock and I would recommend that you pick it up.
