Well I knew it wasn’t going to last. America has been known to not vote very well on America’s Got Talent. This season America was actually voting surprisingly well. I should have known it wasn’t going to last the entire season though since the only time that actually happened was in season two when Terry Fator won. I honestly don’t know how the voters could have gotten things any more wrong this week. More thoughts on that and how America’s Got Talent needs to change next season after the break.
So the five acts that ended up moving onto the finals include:
Kevin Skinner
The Texas Tenors
The Voices of Glory
Grandma Lee
The Fab Five
If you can’t already tell I am not at all happy with what transpired in this episode. In yesterday’s post I listed five acts that I would have liked see make it into the finals. Guess how many actually made the finals? A whopping zero. How in the world does that happen. I wasn’t expecting many of my favorite acts moving though since they rarely do but I thought at least one of my top five would have. Well none of them ended up getting enough votes. I just found it to be disappointing that the best act since Terry Fator (Acrodunk) didn’t even make it to the finals. Acrodunk was original, always brought their most to each performance, and even got better every week and yet they still couldn’t make the finals. The finals are going to be much more boring without Acrodunk in the finals.
I honestly want to know what people’s obsession with singers are. While a whopping two “original acts” (a comic and dancing act which aren’t that original either), three singers are already in the finale. I would think with American Idol and some of the lesser singing reality shows people would be sick of singers. Well that is obviously not the case. The saddest thing about three singer moving through to the finals this week was that there were only three singers that performed. I have a feeling that if five singing acts performed we would be looking at five singing acts now in the finals. Couldn’t America let just one of them go since you know several more singing acts will move through next round since I guarantee at least two or three more which means over half of the finalists will singers. That is just wrong in my opinion since the finale would be much better with more variety for once.
I personally don’t like so many singing acts in the finals but it is even worse when I think all three are pretty overrated. Kevin Skinner I believe is one of the most overrated acts America’s Got Talent has ever had. At the best I think he is only an average singer. I will once again state that I believe the only reason why he gets so many votes is because of his favorable editing and “chicken catcher” story. If none of this played into the equation I guarantee that there is no way he would have made it this far in the competition. The same goes for the Texas Tenors. They aren’t bad singers but I don’t see what people see in them. There are much better singers left in the competition. As far as the Voices of Glory the sister is quite talented but the brothers aren’t that great of singers.
With so many singing shows on television I think you need to be one of the best singers in the country to be worth winning the competition. I guess America disagrees since they are willing to put through any singer that they can vote for. I have a feeling we are going to have a repeat of last season where essentially all the final acts will be singers (last year all the final acts were singers).
With all this taken into consideration, I think things need to be changed next season on America’s Got Talent. Something needs to be done with the singers. You obviously can’t get rid of singers entirely but things need to be changed. Way too many singers make it too far in the competition every season on America’s Got Talent. America’s Got Talent should be a place where unique talents can be shown off. America’s Got Talent has essentially turned into another American Idol though which allows older and younger contestants than Idol. If this is going to continue they should just change the name to America’s Got Singers since that appears to be the only talent this show can find.
I propose that America’s Got Talent needs to either impose limits on how many singers can make it to the rounds where America votes or America’s Got Talent needs to split the competition into two with singers having their own competition while all the other acts compete for a separate title. I think that is the only way that unique talents will be able to showcase their talents and actually have a realistic shot at winning the competition. It has been three seasons and every single winner incorporated singing into their act. I highly doubt anything will change this season.
With Acrodunk now out of the competition I have to end up rooting for Mario and Jenny who perform next week. I really doubt they have any chance of making the next round though especially after what transpired tonight. The next act I would like to see win would be the FootworKingz. If neither are moved on I will have to end up rooting for The Fab Five since for once I would like to see a talent that does not involve any singing whatsoever win the competition. I doubt that will ever happen though in the show’s current format. It’s too bad since I thought this was America’s Got Talent not America’s Got Singers.
