After last week’s terrible selections I didn’t hold out much hope for tonight’s episode. I thought that once again America would put through singer after singer and completely ignore unique acts. While I am glad that America moved on my favorite act remaining, I am disappointed that America had to put through several more singers. After the jump find out the final five acts to make the finals and how I would rank the top ten acts this season’s finals.
The final fives acts moved onto the finals include:
Hairo Torres-I was worried that he wasn’t going to make it to the finals since he was my favorite remaining contestant and all my final acts besides Terry Fator tend to be eliminated before the finals. What I like about him is that he is a very unique dancer and brings excitement and energy to his performances. It’s too bad that there is a very slim chance that Hairo will win the competition. The only way I can see it is if the six singers split votes and Hairo gives the performance of his life.Very unlikey scenario in my opinion.
Barbara Padilla-Like there was any chance that she wasn’t going to move onto the next round. She is a talented opera singer but opera singing is so boring and singers have dominated too long on America’s Got Talent. It would be nice if a different talent could actually win the competition for once since this is America’s Got Talent not America’s Got Singers.
Lawrence Beaman-I have essentially the same reaction to him making the finals as I did for Barbara Padilla. He is talented but I am not going to root for a singing act until a non-singing act finally wins America’s Got Talent. I don’t know if a non-singer is ever going to win though so I don’t think I will be rooting for a singer in a very very long time.
Drew Stevyns-I honestly don’t know what people see in him. He is not a terrible singer but I don’t think he should ever have made it out of the Vegas round. I want to really know why people put him through to the finals. I don’t think he really has much chance of winning but I have said that two rounds now and yet he continues to move on. If one of the singers have to win this season, I would hope that it would be either Barbara or Lawrence and not Drew Stevyns.
Recycled Percussion-While I am not a huge fan of Recycled Percussion, with so few non singing acts remaining I have to be a fan. They are very energetic on stage and are pretty exciting to watch so that does make them entertaining. Their music is solid as well. I really don’t think they have much chance of winning the competition just like the rest of the original acts.
I personally wish one more singer would have been sent home and in their place one more unique act would have made the finals (my preference would have been Acrodunk making the finals). At this point the singers are going to once again dominate the finals with 60% of the finalists being singers. No one talent should comprise that much of the finals of a talent competition that is supposed to embrace all forms of talent. I think America is going to end up picking yet another singer as the winner of the fourth season of America’s Got Talent.
It’s time for some predictions.
Here is how I would like the final vote to go:
- Hairo Torres
- The Fab Five
- Recycled Percussion
- Grandma Lee
- Lawrence Beaman
- Barbara Padilla
- The Voices of Glory
- The Texas Tenors
- Drew Stevyns
- Kevin Skinner
This is how I think the voting will turn out:
- Barbara Padilla
- Kevin Skinner
- Lawrence Beaman
- Grandma Lee
- The Fab Five
- Hairo Torres
- The Voices of Glory
- The Texas Tenors
- Recycled Percussion
- Drew Stevyns

I think you’re right on with your picks and your comments. I wish the show would actually break down the awards into categories. It’s not a singing show yet the singers keep highlighting the show. I think Grandma Lee has a good chance of getting the prize. She is so original and would do a great show in Vegas. Barbara is an awesome singer and will go far. The opera singer from a few years ago was excellent too and everyone thought he would win hands down, so you never know… We’ll all have to wait until the big show next week!!!
I’ve been reading your reviews of each live show and I agree with you a little, but there’s one thing that I don’t agree with. I understand that singers always win AGT, but there’s a reason for that. Singers can sustain a 90 minute show. Dancers can sustain a 90 minute show. A dog act can’t sustain a 90 minute show. Acroodunk would not have been able to sustain a 90 minute show. They’re entertaining, but one can only watch people dunking for so long before it gets old. Another reason singers win is because the general population is more interested in singers and dancers than other acts. You don’t see a magician reality t.v. show and Last Comic Standing has been gone for a couple of years. There’s a reason why American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance are so popular and that’s because they’re entertaining.
No non-singers have ever won AGT? Terry Fatro, hello…….
Why, oh why is Grandma Lee in the finals? She looks vacant & senile to me, and NOT funny!!!!
Terry Fator wasn’t technically a singing act but due to the fact that all his performances were mostly singing through a puppet, he was technically still singing in every performance. As a matter of fact I would say the reason he won was because of his amazing singing while also being a ventriloquist. The ventriloquism was a secondary reason why he won. If Terry Fator was just your typical ventriloquist that just told jokes with his puppets I think he would have had close to a zero percent chance of winning the competition.
While I don’t like singing acts on America’s Got Talent, Terry Fator is easily the best act America’s Got Talent has ever had. I personally think he has ruined the show since I don’t think the show will ever find anyone that is even close to as talented. If you don’t believe me check out his live show or his recently released DVD. Despite having his mouth almost fully closed and not moving his lips, he is still one of the best singers and impersonators in the world. His DVD alone shows that he can sing almost any style very well and he is also quite funny as well.
And as far as Grandma Lee I really haven’t found her to be that funny either especially since all her jokes now seem to focus on “hooking up” with the judges. If she does another joke on the subject I refuse to vote for her since if you are a great comic you at least have to have some originality in your jokes. while she is not that funny in my opinion, I have to applaud her effort at her age.
As far as being able to sustain a show in Vegas I think that shouldn’t play as large of factor into who wins the competition as it currently does. It would be nice if the act could have their own 90 minute show but that is not the focus of America’s Got Talent. After all it isn’t called Vegas’ Next Great Act. I think of America’s Got Talent as a nationwide talent show and the best talent should win regardless if it could sustain a show or not.
I do agree that most of the unique acts couldn’t run a very long show but I don’t think that should be a huge factor into who wins. I actually have a question. Does anyone know if Bianca Ryan (Season 1 winner) or Neil E. Boyd (Season 3 winner) actually have their own show right now? If they don’t it shows that not all singing acts can sustain a show either or they would have their own show.
I agree with you, Digg - but as an ancient crone myself, I don’t “get” Grandma Lee. Oh, I “get” her alright, but a couple of weeks of her and I was borrrred. She reminds me of a windup toy - animated while she does her act and then falls into a doll-like stance with staring eyes and slack mouth. Reminds me of an old Carol Burnett schtick. I do favor Barbara Padilla to win and the rest are good as well, I just don’t see half of them doing Vegas - maybe the “lounge” in a Jack In The Box….hah I also agree about Acrodunk - a great act but 15 minutes is about my attention span for them as well. Better by far than Percussion -now that is a big whoop - nothing but a lotta noise to me. Hooked on those competition shows!
I am trying to buy a collection of opera masterpieces. Any recommendations?
Thanks for taking the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love learning extra on this topic. If possible, as you acquire expertise, would you mind updating your site with further information? It is extremely useful for me.
