After last week’s terrible group of finalists I wasn’t very excited about tonight’s episode. I thought it was just going to be another repeat of last week where singer and singer moved onto the finals. With every singer moving on last week, I worry that once again all the singers will move through this week which is really bad since there is four singers this week. So if all of the singers move through this week only one dancing or original act will move through. Singers will also comprise 70% of the finalists which is really sad. Hopefully my doom and gloom scenario ends up not happening since I will be very hard pressed to actually watch the finals for the season season in a row. It’s too bad since I think there is a very good chance that the singers will dominate once again thanks to poor performances by most of the original acts this week. Enough of my rambling, lets get to tonight’s performances.
Recycled Percussion (Garbage/Junk Band): At the beginning of this semi-finals round Recycled Percussion was between the fifth and tenth best act remaining in the competition. After last week’s bloodbath for original acts, they have essentially already become one of the best acts left in the competition. I think this week’s performance was right on par with what we have seen through three rounds of the competition. While they aren’t perfect, they deserve to move onto the next round just due to the fact that the show actually needs some original acts in the finals. Talent: B+ Entertainment: B+
Lawrence Beaman (Singer): I have never really liked Lawrence Beaman’s song genre since I find his type of music to be pretty boring. He is one of the more talented singers in the competition though. With so many singers moved through last week I hope people are more selective this week with regards to singers since some unique acts need to move through this week. With that said I think Lawrence has a great shot of making the finals. I think the only way he doesn’t make it is if the singing vote isn’t nearly as strong this week and people vote for Barbara Padilla instead since both share a very similar singing style. Talent: A- Entertainment: B-
Erik and Rickie (Young Dancers): I personally think they were better in previous weeks. I just thought this week’s performance was weaker and quite a bit cheesier. I also agree with Piers that the music and dancing didn’t really go along very well. There is also the concern of whether they could actually hold down a show in Vegas. With all that aside, they are very talented for their age. I don’t think they are going to win the competition but I would like to see them make it to the finals. Talent: B Entertainment: B
Jeffrey Ou (Piano Player): He has shown that he is a very, very good piano player. Overall I think his past performances were better though. Even though I don’t think Piers should have buzzed him, something appeared off tonight in my opinion. I think it was just his song selection. I really don’t think he is going to make it to the next round since it wasn’t his strongest performance and a piano player would have had a hard enough time making it to the next round anyway. Talent: B Entertainment: B-
Hairo Torres (Dancer/Contortionist): After Acrodunk being eliminated last week, Hairo Torres became my favorite act left in the competition. While he is another dancer, he brings a unique style to his dancing which separates him from the rest of the dancers in my opinion. While most of the performance let me down this week, Hairo Torres did not disappoint. He definitely deserves to move onto the finals and he remains my favorite act left in the competition. Too bad that is pretty much the kiss of death this season. Talent: A- Entertainment: A-
The EriAm Sisters (Young Singing Group): After three singers moving through last week, I honestly can’t root for any other singers to make it through to the next round. I want a non-singing act to win America’s Got Talent even though I don’t think there is much chance of that happening. Even though three singers moved through last week, I am guessing a couple more will move through this week. I have a feeling that the EriAm Sisters are going to move onto the next round due to their age even though I personally don’t think they should. I don’t think they are going to win the competition though unless they have a fantastic performance in the finals since there are so many other strong singers left in the competition. Talent: B Entertainment: B-
Mario and Jenny (Fire/Danger Act): In the last round I was really surprised by their act. I was so entertained by their performance. Being a unique act as well I wanted to see them in the finals since at this point there is not a single unique act in the finals. But then this week’s performance happened and I am left wondering what in the world happened. I loved the danger and fire in the previous performance but that was all missing in this week’s performance. I can see why they wanted to show something new but it just didn’t work for me. There was no danger in the act and it boiled down to them just dancing around on stage which is not a good idea since there are much better dancers left in the competition. Based on this week’s performance they shouldn’t move onto the finals but taking previous rounds into consideration, I think they should still make the finals. Talent: B- Entertainment: B
Drew Stevyns (Singer): I honestly don’t know why he even made the semi-finals. He is not a terrible singer but he is not on par with the other singers in the competition. With how many singers that are already in the finals and how many are almost guaranteed to still make it to the finals, I hope Drew doesn’t move on again and I don’t think he is going to. There is just so many better singers and hopefully at least one of the singers are actually sent home this week. Talent: C+ Entertainment: B-
FootworKingz (Dance Group): The music choice was pretty poor overall in my opinion but I honestly don’t know why they received two x’s. They were better in the previous round but I didn’t think they were bad this round. They could have been better though. Hopefully they can make it to the next round but I don’t think it is going to happen. Hopefully I am wrong since they might be able to take a spot away from a singing group. Talent: B Entertainment: B
Barbara Padilla (Opera Singer): As I mentioned with Lawrence, Barabara Padilla is a very good singer but also fails to be very entertaining since I don’t like opera. If the singing vote is as generous as last week I think Lawrence and Barbara are both going to make it into the finals. If the singers get less votes this week though I can see either Barbara Padilla or Lawrence Beaman making the finals while the other is sent home. It mostly comes down to how much the singing vote is going to dominate the voting again. Talent: A- Entertainment: B-
