America’s Got Talent S4.E1 (June 23, 2009) Live Review

americasgottalent Americas Got Talent S4.E1 (June 23, 2009) Live Review

Like every summer, I will be providing reviews of each contestant right after they perform. Check back after each performance to read my thoughts on the performers.

Ray Schwarz (singer/dancer)-The season starts with a huge dud, a guy who can’t sing or dance and obviously just wants some attention. All three judges buzz him within 30 seconds. D

Moses Lanham (unique talent)-This guy can turn his feet 180 degrees and still walk. He claims to be the only person in the world who can do it. Somewhat of a talent but definitely not a sustainable act. C

FootworKINGz (dancers)-The crowd quickly goes wild but I honestly have no idea how they are any different than several other dancers who have moved on in previous seasons. I’ll take the cloggers over them any day of the week. The judges move them on to round two though. B

Shine (family singing group)-I was rooting for them since they are from Wisconsin but they don’t have good enough voices. The crowd was extremely cruel since they weren’t that terrible. C

Pete Peterkin (rock ‘n rolling Obama impersonator)-His Obama impersonation is pretty good and his voice is also above average. Unfortunately he doesn’t really look much like him. Regardless, he deserved to move on and did. A

Also moving on to round two are Black Fire Percussion (teenage drumline), and Anointed S (”vocal percussionist”), Unexpected Step Team (steppers).

Debbie Victor (animal sounds)-She has been perfecting her act for 50 years. It takes a whopping one sound effect to get her first X. The sound effects are alright but they just don’t work on this show. C

Rock’n Rory and Tony Hoard (dog act)-Your traditional dog frisbee act but fairly well-done. They definitely deserve to get to Vegas but I don’t think they can make it any further. All three judges vote yes and they move on. B

Brad Byers (puts things up his nose)-He starts off by showing a “fishing accident gone wrong.” He puts a hook through his nose and attaches an anchor then swings it around a bit. Next up, he puts a drill up his nose. Cringe-worthy but awesome. Stupid Sharon votes no but the other two move him on to the next round. A

The EriAm Sisters (teen singing trio)-If you’ve read my reviews in past seasons you know that I hate young singers that move on with little or no talent. I thought this group would be just another example of kids moving on only because of their age but they are actually pretty talented. They obviously get a ticket to Vegas. A

David Johnson (guitarist)-He sings about his crush on a certain “Baywatch” star turned judge. He is an awful singer but his song is actually pretty humerous. I think he deserves to move on as long as he has more funny songs for later rounds. No fun Sharon again votes no but thankfully the guys move him on. B

Bruce and Simone (”aerial artists”)-The two do various aerobic acts on a hoop while also spending a lot of time making out. It wasn’t terrible but of course Sharon loved it (I seriously don’t think she knows what talent is). Sharon manipulates Piers to vote yes and these two losers move on to Vegas instead of much more talented acts. C

Joseph Maracina (impressionist)-I could do better impressions than him. F

Paradizo Dance (newlywed dancers)-Not only do they dance but the very small women (about 100 pounds) can actually lift her overweight husband (240 lbs.) on her back. A unique mix of dancing and strength acts. They definitely deserve the trip to Vegas the judges gave them. A

The Voices of Glory (family singing group)-The three began singing when their mother got into a bad accident. They would sing to her to try to make her feel better and she made it through. They are quite good but I don’t get why the singers are always more hyped than more unique acts. A
