America’s Got Talent Quarterfinals Audition 3 (August 11th, 2009)

americasgottalent Americas Got Talent Quarterfinals Audition 3 (August 11th, 2009)

Overall this was a disappointing episode. Acts underperformed, acts that never should have made this round performed, and one act in particular made a really really stupid decision. One act did surprise tonight but that didn’t make up for the disappointments. Hopefully the final two quarterfinal performance episodes are better than tonight’s episode or else it could be a long season.

The Fab Five (Cloggers)-Their performance was very comparable to the audition. They are a good clogging act. I have my doubts that they can win the competition. First there are so many dancers this season that they will have a lot of competition if they do end up making the semi-finals. Only so many people will vote for dancers, and with split votes I think it might be hard for any dancer to win the competition. Second I don’t think they have the heart touching storyline that other acts have this season. Storylines play a much more of a role in this show than they probably should. If you have a touching storyline, it tends to overshadow the fact that another act might have more talent. With all that said, The Fab Five deserves to move onto the semi-finals.  Talent: B  Entertainment: B

Charles DeWayne (Singer/Piano Player)-People that regularly read this blog know that I am not a huge fan of singers on this show. As a matter of fact I will not vote for a singer to win the competition. Two singers and a singing ventriloquist have won the show in the past. I honestly want to see a different talent win this season. That is why I am vowing not to vote for any singers this entire season. Overall Charles DeWayne’s performance was pretty good.  Talent: B  Entertainment: B-

Carol Loo (Dancer)-Carol Loo is one of quite a few acts that I didn’t think deserved to move onto this round of the competition. After seeing this week’s performance I have to stand by that assessment. She is just not a good enough dancer to be this far in the competition in my opinion. With so many dancers this season, there are many better dancers. You have to applaud her energy and drive to achieve her dream but that isn’t enough for her to  be worthy of moving onto the next round. Drive and personality are good personality traits but they are not talents and since this is America’s Got Talent they aren’t enough to deserve to move onto the semi-finals.  Talent: C-  Entertainment: C-

Tony Hoard & Rory (Dog and Owner Act)-I was hoping that their act would give a good performance but I got to admit that I was disappointed. Rory just dropped way too many frisbees. Whether it was the tosses or the fact that Rory was distracted, dropped frisbees just don’t cut it. That is too bad since I always root for unique acts. I like to vote for unique acts but a dog frisbee act that doesn’t catch every frisbee doesn’t really deserve to move on. There are quite a few dog frisbee acts around and in order to be the best and be worthy of moving onto the semi-finals, every throw and catch needs to be perfect.    Talent: C  Entertainment: C

Eleisha Miller (Singer)-Just like Carol Loo, I didn’t think Eleisha Miller deserved to make it to this round of the competition. Her singing was just not good enough to deserve to move onto the quarterfinals. I got to say that hasn’t changed after this week. Her singing might be a little better, but she is still not a good enough singer to deserve to move onto the next round. She has a great personality but that is not enough to move on in my opinion. This is a talent competition. Not America’s cutest kid. If this was America’s cutest kid, she would be a front runner. Based on her talent though, her journey should end after this week. Maybe with her stage presence and personality she should possibly look into acting. Talent: C- Entertainment: C-

Paradizo Dance (Acrobat Act)-Very few acts have improved on their initial auditions so far this season. Paradizo Dance is one of those few acts. I liked their first performance but I think they did a great job rounding out their act in their second performance. I liked that the act incorporated more for the husband to do. I am also still amazed how the wife is able to lift her husband. At this point I think they deserve to make it to the next round of the competition. They were the performance of the night in my opinion. Talent: A- Entertainment: B+

Texas Tenors (Cowboy Tenor Group)-I have to agree with Piers’ assessment that their act was cheesy. I will also probably be booed for that comment, but I am going to stick with it. While it is great to be patriotic, I think singing patriotic songs in a talent competition is cheesy. If they move onto the next round they need to drop the patriotic songs, and chose a different genre. As far as their singing, they weren’t bad but I think there are better singers in the competition. Talent: B- Entertainment: C+

SQ Entertainment (Dance Group)-They are the first wildcard act of the night. To be honest I don’t remember their first performance so they obviously didn’t leave much of an impression on me. This week their performance wasn’t bad. They are pretty talented and the end of their act was pretty good. I found their act too be pretty boring though which is not a good thing for a competition like America’s Got Talent. Talent: B Entertainment: B-

Pete Peterkin (Impersonator)-After the first round I was impressed by Pete Peterkin. This week I thought he was solid. He really needs to drop the humor if all his jokes were like the one tonight. His joke just wasn’t funny. On the other hand, I thought his Jaime Fox/Ray Charles impression was good. He claimed in his audition that he had hundreds of impersonations. I want to see more of them if he makes it to the next round.  Talent: B Entertainment: B

Alizma (Violin Group)-First, I hate their constant fighting. Second, they absolutely can’t sing. Third, I can’t understand how they could have been any stupider.  They were good violinists. They were terrible singers. I don’t understand their choice to just sing. It seemed like they were out to prove that they were good singers but all they did was almost guarantee their elimination and prove once again that they can’t sing.  If they would have stuck with the violin playing I probably would have voted for them. Since they stuck with the singing, there is no way I am going to vote for them. Talent: D- Entertainment: D-

Beale Street Flippers (Acrobat Act)-They are the second wildcard act given a second chance. I have to applaud the judges on this choice since I have no idea why they didn’t make the quarterfinals to begin with. This week’s performance was kind of a disappointment but I believe they still deserve to move onto the next round. They are a very talented act. I believe that after this week’s audition, they will put on a great performance in the semi-finals. Plus there is the fact that they at least have a semi-original act. Talent: A- Entertainment: B+

The Voices of Glory (Family Singing Act)-Their audition performance was better in my opinion. I agree with Piers that their performance was a little shaky. They just didn’t seem to be on the same page for the entire performance. It doesn’t really matter though since I don’t think they have any chance whatsoever of not making the next round of the competition. I wouldn’t be mad if they made the next round, but I think they need to step it up for the next round of the competition. Talent: B  Entertainment: B-

If I had to chose the five acts I want to see move onto the next round, I would pick:

  1. Paradizo Dance
  2. Beale Street Performers
  3. Peter Perkin
  4. The Fab Five
  5. America’s choice since after the top four I don’t care which act moves on.
