America’s Got Talent: July 15th, 2009 Auditions

After probably the best episode of the season we are treated to yet another average episode filled to the brim with singers. I honestly don’t know why so many singers are being put through. None of the singers are terrible but it is getting ridiculous once again how many singers are getting put through. Obviously singing can’t be a very unique talent if it appears that close to fifty singing acts will probably be put through to Vegas. The judges better make some tough choices in Vegas with regards to the singers since they need to put more non-singing acts through to the finals this year.

Keg “The Lone Ranger of Rock” (Singer/Musician): A terrible musician and singer. It is pretty sad when I can almost always predict which singing acts are going to be terrible and which ones are going to be at least solid. I honestly want to know why he wasn’t x’ed off the stage since he deserved it.  Not Moved On.   Talent: D-   Entertainment: D-

Other acts not moved on: Silvia Brasil (Singer and Dancer), Madmat, The Indestructible Man (Climbs ladder of swords), and The Shanghai Pearl (A dancing pink ape in a maid outfit).

Kari Callin (Singer): She’s a good singer but as I have already pointed out there are so many singers this season. She deserves to move on since she is  better than quite a few of the singers on this show that were moved onto Vegas. I am guessing America’s Got Talent is going to try and make her the next Susan Boyle even though I think Susan Boyle is a considerably better singer.  Moved On.  Talent: B  Entertainment: B-

Other acts moved on: Simon Chaban (Fire Acrobat), Keith Johnson (Singer), and Picie Mystere (Young Girl Dancing Group).

Reality (Singing Group): They are definently a strange singing group. You knew from the cheesy intro music that they had no chance of moving on. They weren’t the worst singers the show has had this season but it was pretty obvious that they didn’t deserve to move onto Vegas. Not Moved On.  Talent: D   Entertainment: D

Destined 2 Be (Dance Group): They are a pretty strange dancing group. Pretty much on par with most of the other dancing groups in my opinion. I give them credit that their dancing is more original than most of the other dancing groups so far this season. Moved on.  Talent: B   Entertainment: B

Rashida Jolley (Harp Player): My first impression was that I didn’t really care how talented she was as a singer or harp player since her act is so boring. Acts on America’s Got Talent need to be entertaining and talented. She is talented but not very entertaining (or at least in my opinion). Add to that the fact that I think a harp player has no chance of winning America’s Got Talent and I don’t think she will make it out of the Vegas auditions.  Moved On.  Talent: B-  Entertainment: C-

Anthony and Matt (Singing and Tap Dancing Group Without a Name):  The tap dancer is the star of the act in my opinion. Overall not a bad act.  I don’t know how much the two acts really work together though. Moved On.  Talent: B-  Entertainment: B-

Other acts moved on: Louis Bar and Laura Cantu (Tango Dancers), The Kalinins (Father/Son Acrobat Act), and Christopher and Laura Camp (Whip Act).

Mia Boostrom (Singer): I honestly don’t know what is up this season. There has already been two former America’s Got Talent contestants, a former American Idol contestant, and a former Last Comic Standing contestant. This must be the season of second chances. In this case though I honestly wouldn’t have known she was on the show last season if the show didn’t mention it.  She’s not a bad singer but I don’t think she will make it to the finals this season either. Moved On. Talent: B-  Entertainment: C+

What were your thoughts on this episodes acts? Which acts were your favorites? What do you think of America’s Got Talent essentially being taken over by singers? What do you think about this season essentially becoming the season of second chances?
