The finals are here at last. While the episode was quite boring (what did you expect with so many boring singing acts), I do have to admit that several performers gave their best performances of the competition. While I think the competition is a little more muddled after tonight’s performances, I think the winner is going to come down to three performers. My thoughts on the final performances, who I would like to win the competition, and who I think will win the competition are after the break.
The Voices of Glory-Overall I think tonight’s performance was their best performance of the competition. After several weeks, The Voices of Glory finally have let the sister take the lead singing role. She is the most talented singer of the three so that was a very wise decision. Unless things change drastically since the last round, I don’t think they are going to win since unless NBC was lying to us there were at least three acts in their own semi-finals show that received more votes. With even stronger competition I think they are going to have a hard time winning.
Hairo Torres-My favorite act left in the competition. While I think his previous two performances were better, he is still the best act left in the competition. Unlike quite a few of the dancers this season, Hairo Torres brought something new every single week. He also has possibly the most unique dancing style in the country. Even though he is my favorite act, I give him next to no chance of winning the competition. I thought he would have to give the best performance in America’s Got Talent history to win the competition. He didn’t give that performance. Unless he gets the most non singing votes and all the singers split the singing vote, he won’t win.
Lawrence Beaman-My opinion of Lawrence Beaman remains the same as it has been the entire competition. He is a good singer but he is boring. In this competition I want to see talent but also be entertained. Lawrence Beaman is talented but is just not entertaining in my opinion. It also doesn’t hurt that he is very similar to last year’s winner Neil E. Boyd. I think he either has the third or fourth best chance at winning the competition.
Barbara Padilla-Just like with Lawrence Beaman she has the same problems. She is really talented as well but her act is even more boring than Lawrence Beaman. Even though an opera singer won last year, at this point I think Barbara Padilla is the front runner to win the competition. I think the only way she doesn’t win is either because of Kevin Skinner or if one of the non-singing acts come out of nowhere and win.
The Fab Five-Overall I think their performance tonight was worse than the previous two weeks. They are still talented dancers but I personally prefer Hairo Torres since his act is more original and I just like his style more. I wouldn’t mind the Fab Five winning though since I want a non-singing act to win. I don’t think it is going to happen but I would like to see it. Like all of the non-singing acts, I don’t think the Fab Five has much shot of winning the competition.
The Texas Tenors-Tonight’s performance was probably their best performance of the competition but I don’t think that is a huge compliment. I personally don’t think they should have made it to the finals since I think there are several better singers in the competition. That said I don’t think they have much chance of winning. I don’t think they are going to win since there are three more popular singers left in the competition at this point (Barbara Padilla, Kevin Skinner, and Lawrence Beaman). Due to this fact I don’t think the Texas Tenors are going to win. They have a better chance than quite a few acts but I just don’t see it happening.
Drew Stevyns-I have to admit that Drew Stevyns either had his best or second best performance of the competition. I really don’t think he should have made the finals but America obviously did. Drew Stevyns is actually the opposite of Lawrence and Barbara. His act is more entertaining since he sings a music genre I like more but he is less talented. Even though Drew Stevyns has already defied the odds, I don’t think he can win. There are six singers in this round and I think there are more popular and more talented singers left in the competition that will get more votes.
Grandma Lee-While I can see while some people find her funny, I just don’t see it. I thought she relied on the “Piers’ jokes” way too much. She could use more variety in her act in my opinion. She pretty much has used almost the same joke for most of the competition. I think she is in the same boat as all of the other unique acts. She is going to have to hope that the people who are going to vote for a singer split their votes. Grandma Lee will also have to dominate in the non-singing vote since there are not nearly as many non-singing votes as there are singing votes. Of all the non-singing acts I do think Grandma Lee does have the best chance though just based on her personality.
Kevin Skinner-This week’s performance just proved my opinion that Kevin Skinner is easily the most overrated act this season and one of the most overrated in the show’s history. If he has a talent, his talent is making any country song more boring. I am even a fan of country music and there is still no way in the world that I would ever give him a vote. I think Kevin Skinner is the perfect example of how a story wins out over actual talent. I am guessing if Kevin Skinner was just an average joe and not “the chicken catcher” he wouldn’t have even made the finals. I think due to editing and his “story” people have overlooked that he is not nearly the best singer in the competition. Even thought I think he is way overrated, America loves him so I think Kevin Skinner has the second best chance of winning the competition. If I had my way though he would place 10th.
Recycled Percussion-Just like the other non-singing groups they have their work cut out for them. Since the first time I saw them they reminded me of the Blue Man Group and Stomp. This week’s performance was on par with all their other performances. They are one of the better performers left in the competition but I really don’t know if they can headline their own show in Vegas with groups such as the Blue Man Group already having their own show.
This is how I would like to see the finals go down:
- Hairo Torres
- The Fab Five
- Recycled Percussion
- Lawrence Beaman
- Barbara Padilla
- Grandma Lee
- The Voices of Glory
- The Texas Tenors
- Drew Stevyns
- Kevin Skinner
How I think the finals will turn out:
- Barbara Padilla
- Kevin Skinner
- Lawrence Beaman
- Grandma Lee
- The Texas Tenors
- The Voices of Glory
- Recycled Percussion
- Drew Stevyns
- The Fab Five
- Hairo Torres

Yippy Grandma Lee is not in the top 5.
Does anybody else think the final “reveal” show is an embarassingly boring publicity stunt for a few almost “established” unspectacular elevator music “talents” who were not part of the competition? (With the exception of Susan Boyle.) I’m just watching it, and turning off the sound most of the time, while I wait for Criminal Minds to come on at eight. Now, I admit, I have weird taste, and it might just be me.
Susan Boyle is an immensely talented lady who’s been subjected to considerable pressure in the media. IMHO she deserves all of the success that she is experiencing.
That is actually some inspirational equipment. Never understood that opinions may very well be this different. Thanks for all you enthusiasm to offer such helpful tips here.
