Recently the Alvin and the Chipmunks cartoon series has been released on DVD. Instead of being released in season sets, The Alvin and Chipmunks episodes are being released in collections.

For those of you unfamiliar with Alvin and the Chipmunks, it was a long running cartoon series that ran between 1983 to 1990. This DVD is another Alvin and the Chipmunks collection which includes six episodes that feature The Chipettes (Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor). Episodes include: May The Best Chipmunk Win, Operation Theodore, Sisters, The Greatest Show-Offs on Earth, My Fair Chipette, and Tell It to the Judge.

Overall as you can probably tell by just the cover, Alvin and the Chipmunks is a lot like your typical animated cartoon. The show is mostly gauged towards children but people who were fans of the episodes when they first aired should also enjoy this DVD collection.

While the episode storylines hold up pretty well over time, time hasn’t been so kind to the video quality. The video quality isn’t terrible but you can easily tell that the show is over 20 years over. The video quality is a little grainy and you can tell that animation has improved over the last 20 years.

So as far as recommendations are concerned, it pretty comes down to two things. If you are a fan of Alvin and the Chipmunks you should enjoy this DVD. You should also enjoy the DVD if you are a fan of cartoons, especially older cartoons. If you are a fan of neither I would probably recommend that you not pick up Alvin and the Chipmunks The Chipettes.
