I don’t know if it is just me but I was certainly underwhelmed by the series premiere of 90210. While I think the show could possibly be salvaged (very unlikely at this point) it is easily a below average teen drama at this point. So everyone doesn’t think I am an old geezer (since people that are defending the show are using this excuse) I am a 20 year old male. I am in the demographic that this show is targeting. Add in the fact that I am a sucker for teen dramas and you would think I would like this show. Well I really didn’t and I am not that surprised since I knew it wouldn’t be that great when the CW hid the pilot from critics.
I don’t know it is just me but I think it is pretty sad when the oldest cast member is easily the best character on the show. This show is supposed to be about teens and it turns out that the grandmother is the star of the show. I seriously feel sorry for Jessica Walter being stuck on this show. I will give 90210 another chance but if it doesn’t improve quite a bit in the next two episodes 90210 will be a very easy cut from my already overcrowded television schedule. I guess that is enough bashing of the show lets get to the recap of the two hour premiere.
90210 begins when the Wilson family moves to Beverly Hills from Kansas. Harry (the father) gets a job as the new principal. It turns out that Harry wasn’t such a good guy when he was in Beverly Hills since he actually got Naomi’s mother pregnant as a teenager and she had to give the kid up for adoption.
Dixon (Harry’s adopted son) makes the Lacrosse team but has trouble making friends since his new teammates would rather fight him than actually be his teammate. Dixon is actually kicked off the team until Ethan finally admits that Dixon didn’t start the fight. When the school is trashed by a rival school Dixon actually gains some respect from his team when he helps them pull off a prank involving pigs and the other school’s lunch room. Dixon ends confessing to the prank and is thrown off the team until the rest of the team confesses as well.
Annie is also having some trouble getting along with the kids at school. She befriends Naomi but that quickly ends when Naomi copies Annie’s paper and Annie tells her father that she stole it from her. Annie ends up befriending Silver who just so happens to be the sister of Kelly Taylor (from the original show who happens to have a child now). Silver ends up getting Annie in the school play where she meets Ty (the richest kid in school). They end up going out on a date. Debbie (Annie’s mother) isn’t very happy when she finds out that Annie and Ty actually went on a date in San Francisco.
Naomi and Ethan were once the power couple at school but that ends when Naomi finds out that Ethan was cheating on her. Naomi tries to get back at him by cheating on him with one of his lacrosse teammates. This makes Ethan break up with her for good. It appears that Ethan is now interested in Annie but Annie is currently taken by Ty.
