I don’t have a lot of experience with “7th Heaven” and its storylines since the only season I watched before this one was season 7 when I received a review copy last November. I thought that season was average and unsurprisingly, the eighth season got the same reaction to me. There are some good stories here, the show just doesn’t really do anything different or better than other family dramas.
I’m sure many of you have heard that “7th Heaven” is a highly religious show but that really isn’t the truth. Sure, one of the characters is a minister but the focus is on the family rather than their religion. I personally thought it would be a bit “preachy” but I didn’t get that feeling after watching the episodes. Basically, it is your traditional family drama.
One thing that I wouldn’t advise is jumping into the show in the middle seasons like I did. While you can still enjoy the weekly stories, you will miss a ton of character development and other key stories that took place in the previous seven seasons. Skipping the first six seasons probably hurt my enjoyment of the show quite a bit so I would definitely recommend you pick up season one and go from there.
Video and audio quality are both alright but definitely not spectacular. The transfer is relatively clean but there is some grain. The audio is pretty basic but it does its job. There is a note on the back of the box that says that the music has been changed for this release. Unfortunately, I have no way of telling how much has changed since I never watched the episodes when they aired. I personally don’t mind music changes if it will get a show released on DVD but if you do, keep this in mind before you purchase.
If you have been picking up the season sets of “7th Heaven” as they come out, there is no reason not to purchase season eight as well. If you haven’t seen the show but generally like family dramas, you’ll probably enjoy “7th Heaven.” However, I would recommend you start with the first season and go from there.
