After the four hour premiere last week, 24 is back on it’s normal night and time. The premiere was actually surprisingly good. It seemed like 24 was back after the subpar Redemption and terrible season six. Even though the premiere was good, I was worried about last night’s episode though. I remember too well the season six premiere. The premiere for season six was good but after the premiere everything went downhill and quickly. So before last night’s episode I was anxious about the episode since I feared it would fall into the trap of season six. Thankfully my fears weren’t realized since last night’s episode of 24 continued on the good pace that the premiere started.

Jack, Tony, and the other terrorists continue trying to kidnap Motobo. They can’t get to him while he is in the safe room though so Jack comes up with the idea of smoking him out of the room. Jack and Tony put poisonous gas in the vents until Motobo and his wife come out. They capture him and prepare to transport him. Their plan is interrupted by Renee though. They capture her and the terrorist’s boss decides that she needs to be eliminated.  Jack is tasked with killing and burying her. Obviously Jack wouldn’t really kill her so he fakes shooting her and then proceeds to bury her alive. Well the chances of Jack and Renee hooking up this season probably took a turn for the worse last night. Pretending to shoot and then bury a woman alive is not a way to impress them, Jack.

Overall I think Jack and Tony’s storyline is shaping up pretty well. I am guessing that Renee will soon join them. I like the idea that they are working under cover and I also like that they are also being hunted by the FBI. It’s too bad that they most likely won’t be working alone for much longer. After this episodes developments Renee has to think something is up with Jack since he could have just killed her. I am guessing this leads to at least some part of the government helping them out. Hopefully they keep this storyline going as long as possible though.

After Motobo is kidnapped, the President has a “tough decision” on her hands. She needs to decide whether to back down or continue the invasion. Even without a leader in place to take over Sangala and the threat of innocent Americans dying, the President decides to continue the invasion. I don’t know if it is just me but this idea is just stupid. While it is terrible what is happeneing to the people in Sangala, as President of the United States you need to take care of your own people first. Second you now have no leader to take over Sangala after you invade the country. This will lead to civil unrest and probably many more deaths since the country wouldn’t be united under a strong leader. Finally I don’t know why you wouldn’t just withdraw until you got the device back. Once you got the device back you just invade. I don’t think you really need to keep your word to a world criminal that is killing his own people.

Finally Henry has his own problems when he is taken captive by his secret service agent. In what shouldn’t have come as much of a surprise, his secret service agent was in on the conspiracy. He ends up drugging Henry and takes him to Samantha’s house. The secret service agent’s partner than gets Samantha to come with pretending that Henry needs to speak with her. They actually are planning on planting evidence on Henry that would lead authorities to believe that Henry killed Samantha and then took his own life.

At first I really didn’t think this story was going anywhere. I thought the storyline was pretty boring and would just be filler material. After this week’s episode, I am starting to change my opinion. While the storyline could still use some work, it appears that there must be a lot more to the storyline or there is no way that they would have let all this stuff happen so early in the season. I am guessing that we will find out quite a bit of information about the conspiracy through Henry’s quest to bring his son’s killer to justice.

Your Take: So did you like yesterday’s episode of 24? Do you think season seven is on the right track or do you think the season is already in trouble? What do you think about the President’s decision to still decide to invade Sangala?
