Show Name: Confessions of a Teen Idol

When and Where Does It Air?: Sundays at 8/7c on VH1 (premieres January 4, 2009)

What’s It About?: After “resurrecting” his own career on VH1, Scott Baio will try to get teen celebrities from the past back into the spotlight. Seven former idols will live together while Baio, his good friend Jason Hervey (who was Wayne on “The Wonder Years” and is now a producer), and a team of professionals help them reinvent themselves.

Who’s In It?:

  • Scott Baio (”Scott Baio Is 45…and Single”) as Mentor
  • Jason Hervey (”The Wonder Years”) as Mentor
  • Chris Atkins (”Dallas,” “The Blue Lagoon”)
  • David Chokachi (”Baywatch,” “Witchblade”)
  • Bill Hufsey (”Fame,” “Days of Our Lives”)
  • Jeremy Jackson (”Baywatch”)
  • Eric Nies (”The Real World”)
  • Jamie Walters (”Beverly Hills, 90210,” “The Heights”)
  • Adrian Zmed (”Grease II,” “T.J. Hooker,” “Bachelor Party”)

Who’s Behind It?:

  • Scott Baio-Executive Producer
  • Jason Hervey (”Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Championship Wrestling”)-Executive Producer
  • J.D. Roth (”The Biggest Loser,” “Beauty and the Geek”)-Executive Producer
  • Eric Bischoff (”Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Championship Wrestling”)-Executive Producer
  • Michael Swerdlick-Executive Producer

Why Should I Watch It?:

  • The show has some decent names and the concept is pretty interesting. I’m sure people who grew up watching these guys will love seeing them back on their screens. It will also be neat to see if some of them can resurrect their careers. At the very least, it doesn’t look like the train wreck most of VH1’s shows are.
  • The trailer looked pretty good and this is coming from someone who has never watched a VH1 celebreality show in his life.
  • VH1 has had a very high success rate when it comes to launching shows. Almost all of their shows get at least a second season so I’m sure “Confessions of a Teen Idol” will too.

Why Should I Skip It?:

  • The show has a very narrow niche. The only people that will probably enjoy it are those who love VH1’s celebreality programming and fans of the cast members.

Conclusion: I’ve never watched a VH1 celebreality program in my life but I might give this one a shot.
