chuck-vs-the-fat-lady-300x202 Rants and Raves (November 18th, 2008)Chuck S2.E7 Chuck Versus the Fat Lady

While not the best episode of Chuck, I thought last night’s episode of Chuck was quite good. From Sara dressing up as Chuck’s “hooker”, to Casey’s singing, to Jill finding Chuck and Sara together in the shower after supposedly being poisoned this was a pretty funny episode.

It is probably one of the worst episodes of the season though. Mostly due to Jill turning out to be a villain. First I liked to see Chuck happy for once but that is obviously coming to an end very soon. Then there is the fact that it was quite predictable. I could tell that she was a fulcrum agent minutes before it was actually revealed.

I would also have to give a shout out to those extra people that tuned into to watching Chuck last night. While it wasn’t a lot of extra people maybe this is a sign that Chuck’s audience is starting to grow. Maybe it will eventually get to the point that it should be at since it is one of the best shows on television.

Quotes:

Chuck: “The government finds me very very important.”

Sara: How much trouble could he get in on a date.”

Chuck: “A camera on the roof for all those Buy More terrorists.”

Chuck: “We tried the back seat and there is a camera there too.”

Morgan: “You’re questioning Chuck’s allegiance to Buymoria.”

Casey: “Does silence mean something else in geek?”

Jeff: “His beard holds so many secrets.”

Lester: “Don’t do it for us. Do it for Buymoria.”

Casey: “It’s not a secret location if you invite people over.”

Casey: “My guess is round second base.”

Chuck: “Why not no one shoot Chuck?”

how-i-met-your-mother-woooo-300x200 Rants and Raves (November 18th, 2008)How I Met Your Mother S4.E8 Wooo!

Last night’s episode of How I Met Your Mother was probably the worst episode of the season. Even if it was one of the worst How I Met Your Mother episodes, it was still a great episode.

This week’s episode focused on Ted designing the Headquarters for Barney’s employer and the famous Woo girls. While neither story lived up to their potential they both had their highlights. I don’t know it is is just me but I really think one of the Sven designers was actually Neil Patrick Harris. If it wasn’t him they found an actor that looks just like him. On top of that I liked how Marshall locked Barney on the roof and forced him to face the pidgeons they had angered for a long time. Meanwhile with the woo girls the whole setup was decent and hit it’s high point when Ted became a woo girl himself.

Quotes:

Robin: “Marshall is always talk blocking me.”

Marshall: “Sweden is not France you know?”

Barney: “He can totally be in on the conference call.”

Robin: “Maybe she’s just a cultural woo.”

Lily: “We saw you woo.”

Marshall: “You sold him out to work inside a dinosaur’s brain office.”

the-big-bang-theory-the-lizard-spock-expansion Rants and Raves (November 18th, 2008)The Big Bang Theory S2.E8 The Lizard-Spock Expansion

Just like How I Met Your Mother, yesterday’s episode of the Big Bang Theory was one of the worst of the season. I don’t know why exactly but it just wasn’t as enjoyable as other episodes this season. One thing I had a problem with is how lucky Leonard is with the ladies. While he doesn’t get a lot of ladies, he sure has his fair share of “relationships” for a self proclaimed nerd.

What I did like about the episode though was the continuation of the gang showing why they truly are nerds. First they created their own version of rock paper scissors adding in Spock and for some reason lizard. It was hilarious how they explained what beat what.

The funniest moment of the show might have come in the end credits. For those of you who didn’t see the message at the end of the show (Chuck Lorre does this with all his shows) it essentially apologizes to George Lucas for insulting him in the episode. In the apology though he insults George Lucas’ latest works even more by insulting the latest Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

Quotes:

Howard: “Who wants to be my wingman?”

Penny: “Move your scooter before I pick it up and throw it in the dumpster.”

Sheldon: “I’ll let George Lucas disappoint me in the order he intended.”

Howard: “I got the Mars rover stuck in a ditch.”

Sheldon: “Maybe they can carpool when they visit you in federal prison.”

Koothrapali (his advice to getting the rover out of the crater): “You can try to call AAA.”

heroes-its-coming-201x300 Rants and Raves (November 18th, 2008)Heroes S3.E9 It’s Coming

Overall last night’s episode of Heroes was pretty average in my opinion. I actually kind of like where things are going with the two sides but I really don’t like how the show is going about splitting the Heroes up.

I don’t know if it was just me but none of this week’s storylines were that interesting. First you actually turn Hiro into a child after treating him like a child for so long on the show. I don’t mind that the show has him being a little childish (in a nerdy way) but the show has gone way too far. I want to know how the writers have almost ruined easily the best character on the show. They need to either make Hiro grow up or they need to give him an exit from the show before they tarnish the character anymore. Next there is the Matt, Daphne, Tracy, and Nathan storylines. Unless the show does a better job in the near future, I honestly could care less what happens with any of these storylines.

Finally there is the Elle and Sylar “relationship”. Well it might be too early to call but I think I could actually have been right last week when I threw out the idea that Sylar and Elle would get together (based on Sylar having a kid in the future). While it would be great to have predicted the future of the show, I personally hope I am wrong. The two share no chemistry and I personally would like Kristen Bell to actually get a role that she can flourish in instead of Elle which isn’t that great of character in my opinion.

While I am going to be upset when Pushing Daisies eventually gets canceled (there is very little chance it survives at this point), one positive will be that Heroes might be able to finally get back to it’s old form. Bryan Fuller has already said he will return to Heroes if Pushing Daisies is cancelled. Maybe he can bring back what has been missing since season one since something is definently missing.

Quotes:

Hiro: “They make my favorite waffles here.”

Claire: “Didn’t you know I’m the defensive player of the year?”

Arthur: “Come give your dad a hug.”

prisonbreak-quiet-riot-300x200 Rants and Raves (November 18th, 2008)Prison Break S4.E11 Quiet Riot

Overall another pretty good episode of Prison Break last night. This has actually turned into somewhat of a rebound season for Prison Break (not nearly as good as season one though). This will most likely be the last season of the show though (due to ratings) and I personally think that is a good idea. Let the show go out on somewhat of a high point instead of giving the show another season with a poor storyline.

Since this is only the eleventh episode I am kind of wondering why the show is moving so fast. After last night’s episode it appears likely that the gang will either be killed (obviously they won’t be) or they will successfully obtain Scylla. While the show will most likely find a way for something else to happen, I am wondering what the show could really do after Scylla is found. All I can see is an episode or two of the company being rounded up and setting up the gang’s happy ending. I guess we will have to wait and see what will happen the rest of the season, but I don’t see much left for the rest of the season.

terminator-complications-300x207 Rants and Raves (November 18th, 2008)Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles S2.E9 Complications

I found last night’s episode of Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles to be pretty boring overall. That really is the only problem I have with Terminator, it has too many slow episodes. Last night’s episode was a perfect example of this fact. While some episodes like this are necessary to push the story forward, I think Terminator could do a better job making these episodes a little more interesting.

Derek’s storyline was average; but John’s, Cameron’s and Sarah’s storylines were pretty bland. Sarah’s especially since the show has done this same storyline several times already. Yes we already know that Sara always feels the need to be on the run and can trust no one. Is the only thing she dreams/hallucinates about is objects turning into Terminators?

One positive to come out of the episode though was the fact that the gang can change the future as shown by Derek being from a different future than Jesse. I think this opens opportunities for the show. Maybe the show can actually get rid of the slow episodes so it can more than just an average show.
