“Mind of Mencia” is a Comedy Central show that mixes stand-up and sketch comedy. If you read my review of “Carlos Mencia: Performance Enhanced” you probably know that I’m not really a fan of Mencia’s stand-up comedy. I do like most sketch comedy quite a bit and the sketches on “Mind of Mencia” are no exception. They more than make up for the average stand-up segments in my opinion.

Overall, the show is very similar to “The Chappelle Show” in style. Mencia performs some stand-up comedy then introduces several sketches. The only difference between the two shows is that there are fewer sketches and more stand-up comedy in “Mind of Mencia.” “The Chappelle Show” was definitely funnier but if you really enjoy stand-up or sketch comedy “Mind of Mencia is probably still worth a look.

The season’s ten episodes aired this summer. Because it just aired recently, there are obviously no problems with the video or audio. Since the show is a comedy, it obviously isn’t going to be the most visually impressive thing out there but it definitely meets expectations.

One of the biggest pluses with this DVD is the large quantity of bonus features. The longest are the two “between the breaks” features which together total 40 minutes. As you might have guessed, these features show Mencia joking around during the breaks between the segments. Also included are several “Mencia Minutes” (six minute-long jokes from Mencia), tons of deleted and extended scenes, and bloopers. All of the bonus features are pretty funny and they will add well over an hour of enjoyment to the set.

“Mind of Mencia” isn’t as good as the show it effectively replaced (”The Chappelle Show”) but it is still a solid sketch and stand-up comedy show. Recommended for comedy fans.
