greys-anatomy-rise-up-300x168 Rants and Raves (November 7th, 2008)Grey’s Anatomy S5.E7 Rise Up

It’s good to see Grey’s Anatomy returning to it’s humorous ways. This was probably the funniest episode of Grey’s Anatomy in quite a while. You had the chief torturing George with the robot patient (hilarious in my opinion). You also had Sloane trying to hit on Christina despite being unsuccessful for probably the first time in my life. It was also good to see Jeffrey Dean Morgan. It’s too bad that he can’t get his own show.

One of the big news stories this week regarding television was Brooke Smith (Dr. Hahn) being written off the show. Well yesterdays episode was her last episode and I have to say that I was disappointed with the move. While I never thought Hahn was that great of character (and I actually might have written her out later) I think it was a pretty poor way of writing a character off the show. I am not going to speculate why Dr. Hahn was written off (there are plenty of rumors going around) I do have to say that the show could have at least gave her a couple more episodes in order to give the character a good write off instead of the stupid idea of just having her leave the hospital upset.

Quotes:

Christina: “They’re like my personal Harry Potter books.”

Chief Weber (to Owen Hunt): “When do you sleep?”

DereK: “That’s the holy grail of marriage.”

Sloane (after being rejected by Christina): “This just doesn’t happen to me.”

Alex: “Want to see some dead people?”

Alex: “Dude I think you broke her.”

Kudos to Supernatural for their best episode of the season so far and one of the best episodes of the series. I don’t know if it is just me but I thought last night’s episode of Supernatural was downright hilarious. How could you not love an episode where all your wishes come true. Especially when one wish brings a Teddy Bear to life who develops a drinking problem, has an extremely dirty mind, and even tries to kill himself. Also Dean uses a wish in order to get a sandwich. Finally you have a tiny kid that ends up terrorizing the town and even beats up Dean. One thing I do wonder about is what Sam and Dean haven’t pretended to be after yesterday’s disguise as teddy bear doctors. While it was far from a realistic episode, I find it hard for anyone not to enjoy last night’s episode.

Quotes:

Dean: “Women. Showers. We need to help these people.”

Sam: “I have a feeling that crazy pushed her down the stairs.”

Dean: “Run Forrest Run.”

Dean: “Bigfoot breaks into a store looking for some hooch?”

Dean: “On Thursdays we’re teddy bear doctors.”

ugly-betty-crushd-300x168 Rants and Raves (November 7th, 2008)Ugly Betty S3.E7 Crush’d

This was probably the best episode of the season so far. Ugly Betty has had an off year so far but I am holding out hope that it will be able to rebound and last night’s episode is a good indication that things could be turned around.

While it makes very little sense I like the idea of Betty and Amanda being roommates. This should lead to some humor and it should also give Amanda some more airtime since her airtime has been pretty limited so far this season. I also like that the show is giving Amanda and Marc more time since they really have been relegated into the background so far this season.

I don’t know if it is just me but I want to know why Cliff just ended up disappering and then just reappeared this week. Maybe it was budgetary reasons but I thought the show could have had him in a couple more episodes this season especially since he is still dating Marc (probably not much longer after what happened in this episode).

Quotes:

Betty (to Amanda): “Can you just put something on?”

Marc: “I would love to live in his pants for a year.”

Amanda: “It looks like a flyer for a rodeo at a woman’s prison.”

Marc (to Wilhelmina): “You don’t even eat diner.”

Wilhelmina: “I always blackmail people when I’m nervous.”

smallville-bloodline Rants and Raves (November 7th, 2008)Smallville S8.E8 Bloodline

If you have been reading my articles so far this season you probably already know that I have actually been impressed so far this season with Smallville. I thought Smallville was all but over but this was a little of a rebound season in my opinion.

This week’s Smallville was also pretty good but I had two problems with the episode. The first was the fact that Lois just frequently forgot everything that happened. The characters in Smallville must have the worst memory in the world since none of them seem to be able to remember anything. There is also the tendancy of them always being knocked out.

The other negative I have is the fact that Smallville decided to downgrade Kara to a recurring character. I really don’t understand the logic behind that especially since Kara was one if not the only bright spot of last season. I just don’t understand why they didn’t keep her as a regular especially since the cast had already lost two members (Lex and Lana) and added three new regulars this season.

Quotes:

Lois: “What’s the funky paperweight do?”

Chloe (to Tess Mercer): “Is Clark expecting you or is this your daily break in?”

Lois: “Clark, we’ve been abducted.”

Chloe (to Oliver): “Do I show you how to shoot your arrows?”

Clark: “Don’t worry, I can handle Lois.”

Oliver: “Hallmark didn’t have any welcome back to Earth cards.”

survivor-marcus Rants and Raves (November 7th, 2008)Survivor S17.E7 Apple in the Garden of Evil

I have to actually give Survivor quite a bit of credit this season. This has been sort of a rebound season. What makes it even more impressive is the fact that at this time there are pretty much only two survivors that I actually like (Bob and Kenny). This season of Survivor deserves credit since reality shows are usually always boring when their really aren’t any great contestants. THis season has been pretty interesting though. Credit for that goes to Survivor for actually making the game interesting once again. With the multiple switches and game changes this season has really lead to a lot of changes in power. I personally wish the show would stay with teams until the final five or six even though I don’t think it will happen. I actually wouldn’t even mind if the teams are switched once again before the end of the season.

With another switch in teams it makes me start wondering if Survivor is actually going to stick with teams till near the end of the game. This is something I have wanted Survivor to do for quite a long time. Survivor has had some many twists over the years but two twists I wanted to see was to keep the contestants on teams for the whole season and also have a season where all the contestants are merged from the beginning.

Hopefully the twists and changes in power continue since they are making this season interesting. Hopefully Bob can also find a way to save himself since he is my favorite Survivor this season.

30-rock-believe-in-the-stars-300x199 Rants and Raves (November 7th, 2008)30 Rock S3.E2 Believe in the Stars

Just like last week’s episode I have to say that I was quite surprised by this episode of 30 Rock. For those of you who didn’t read last week I will reiterate that I have never been a big fan of 30 Rock. I actually think it is one of the most overrated shows on television. I might have to change my thoughts a little though since the third season has been quite good so far. It will still be far from the best comedy on television (that goes to How I Met Your Mother) these last two episodes have convinced me to continue watching the show.

So why did I like this week’s episode. Two things in particular made this a pretty funny episode. First were the fake Olympic games. Who wouldn’t love to watch such Olympic sports as tetherball, octuples tennis, or even synchronized running. It’s too bad that the show dumped the joke too early since I think this joke could have lead to many more laughs then the story with Jack and Kenneth. The other storyline I liked was with Liz confussing a teenage girl with Oprah after taking some sleeping medication. While it still felt like stunt casting, it did lead to some funny moments.

The one storyline I didn’t really like was the Jenna/Tracy storyline. I really didn’t find it to be funny and the only humor that came from the story was when the teenager Liz mistook for Oprah helped them get through their problems.

Quotes:

Liz: “I put on my Princess Leia outfit and I never get picked.”

Jenna: “How can you defame someone who has been arrested in three different Chucky Cheese’s?”

Jack: “This is worse than when you wore shorts to work.”

Kenneth: “Is Spongebob Squarepants supposed to be scary?”

the-office-customer-survey-300x202 Rants and Raves (November 7th, 2008)The Office S5.E5 Customer Survey

Last night’s episode of The Office was decent. I thought the Jim/Dwight storyline was funny at times especially when Dwight thought he was being spied on by customer service. The Andy Angela wedding storyline has never really interested me so it comes as no surprise that this week was no different. The Jim/Pam headset storyline was ok but it brings up a problem in my opinion. Maybe it is just my opinion but I think they are going to essentially have to bring Pam back to Scranton very soon. I am actually surprised that she has been gone as long as she already has been. Pam’s storylines just haven’t been funny this season and I don’t think they will get much better until she returns to Scranton.

Quotes:

Andy: “Dude that’s my face.”

Andy: “Hobos live in trains.”

Jim: “Put me in his ear.”

my-name-is-earl-sold-a-guy-a-lemon-car-300x202 Rants and Raves (November 7th, 2008)My Name is Earl S4.E9 Sold A Guy a Lemon Car

I thought this week’s My Name is Earl was another weak episode. I don’t know what is with the show but it must be one of the most inconsistent shows on television today. The show can be very funny some weeks and then be a total dud the next week. This week’s episode was one of the duds since I might have laughed once or twice during the entire episode.

Quotes:

Earl: “That penguin was a jerk.”

Randy: “Why don’t you look through the bullet hole?”

Earl: “I had a lot of experience of telling psycho’s that I screwed them.”

Earl: “I think I created a terrorist.”

itsalwayssunnyinphiladelphia_logo Rants and Raves (November 7th, 2008)It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia S4.E11 The Gang Cracks the Liberty Bell

This episode was a disappointment in my opinion. The episode had it’s share of laughs but I didn’t think the episode was nearly as funny as the show normally is. The funniest part of the episode in my opinion was when Charlie, Dennis, and Mac tried to rip the George Washington picture off the wall. All the historic material just wasn’t that funny in my opinion. I don’t think It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia should eve think about another history episode.

Quotes:

Charlie: “The pumpkin is innocent.”

Charlie: “Check his pulse.”
Dee: “He doesn’t even have a head.”
