Story

Having a lot of money doesn’t make life easier. You just need to ask the Darling family. While they have plenty of money to spare and aren’t afraid to use it, they still have plenty of their own problems. Nick George is brought in to be the family’s lawyer and help them with the problems they encounter on a regular basis. Paternity suits, illicit affairs, divorces, extravagant parties, and outlandish spending is just in a normal day for the Darlings.

Overall I would have to call Dirty Sexy Money a pretty average show. I liked the concept of the show since it gave a good premise for a character drama. The only problem is that the show never really found it’s groove. It might be because the season only had 10 episodes and didn’t have enough time to grow in it’s first season. By the end of the first season some storylines were set up for the second season so hopefully Dirty Sexy Money will finds it’s groove in the second season. Even though the show never found it’s groove I have to say that it had it’s moments which at least partially makes up for not hitting it’s stride.

Packaging

Overall the packaging is pretty bland in my opinion. The packaging is mostly just pictures of the cast and scenes from the first season. It’s pretty much what you would expect from most DVD sets. The one thing that does stand out is the tabloid newspaper. It is the DSM Observer and it essentially is a one-page newspaper with gossip type stories about what happened in the first season. I actually found this to be pretty cool since the show has an emphasis on scandalous type stories. It’s always nice when some extra effort is put into a DVD set.

Special Features

Overall I would say that the special features aren’t that special. They aren’t bad but I wouldn’t say they are any better than what you get in a typical DVD set. I am a little surprised by how many special features you get especially since it was a short season. Here are the special features you get in this DVD set:

The Road to Excess-A basic behind the scenes look at the creating the show. It mostly emphasizes the different characters. It is around 20 minutes in length.
Enter the Penthouse-This feature addresses how the sets are created to look like they would be fitting for the rich and famous and still stay under budget. This was actually the best special feature in my opinion.
Haute Couture-This special features essentially addresses the wardrobe of all the characters. If you are interested in fashion or costume design you probably get more out of this special feature than I did.
The Other Woman-A profile of the character of Carmelita and how it is changing opinions of transgender performers.
Dirty Sexy Bloopers-A blooper reel.
Audio Commentaries-Your typical commentaries.
Deleted Scenes-What you would expect out of deleted scenes.

Final Thoughts

Overall I thought Dirty Sexy Money was a pretty average character drama. The show has the promise to take the next step but it has failed to find it’s groove after the first 10 episodes. If you are a fan of Dirty Sexy Money or character dramas I would recommend that you look into picking up the first season of Dirty Sexy Money.
