Overall I thought this was a very average episode of the Cleaner. I think the show really needs to break off from exclusively dealing with drugs. William’s organization deals with all types of obsession and yet we have had drug addiction in every single episode. I think the show would be much more interesting if it actually addressed something other than drug addiction. For those of you who missed the episode here is a recap of the episode.
This week’s case involves an FBI agent named Michael. He went undercover to bust a drug organization but he went in a little too deep. He is now addicted to drugs and he refuses to be pulled out. The FBI is about to bust the drug dealers and if Michael doesn’t get out he will be arrested along with the rest of the drug dealers. William is approached by a woman (Agent Keenan) and she asks him for his help. William isn’t willing to work for her until she shows him some dirt she has on Akani that will lead to arrest if she leaks it. William has Akani head up to San Francisco and work out a deal with a wealthy client that needs to get his brother clean.
Agent Keenan tells William about the case. Michael had been under cover 6 months when he all of a sudden went rogue. She tells William that he is the only one who can approach him since he already knows all the FBI agents and it might spook him. William, Swinton, and Darnell check out the drug hangout (dressed as homeless people). William tries to approach Michael but he isn’t willing to get help. He throws William out of the compound. William meets with Agent Keenan and finds out that the reason he probably turned rogue was the case before going undercover he suffered emotional trauma when several kids were shot by a gang leader. Agent Keenan thinks he was never ready to return to service.
Swinton and Darnell do some recon on Michael and find out that he is ex special forces. William decides to approach Michael again but his plan doesn’t work and he is thrown out of the compound again. Meanwhile the FBI plans their assault on the drug base. Swinton then comes up with some info that finally useful in getting Michael to give up his drug addiction. It turns out the Agent Keenan is carrying Michael’s baby. When William tells Michael this information he is finally willing to leave his drug addiction behind. The FBI then storm the drug hideout and arrest all the drug dealer. Michael is also arrested but he isn’t charged. He loses his career with the FBI though. Agent Keenan thanks William for his help by giving him Akani’s file and the keys back to his new truck (that he got from helping a gangster’s daugther).
While all this is going on Melissa heads up to William’s father’s house because that is where Ben ran off to. Melissa tries to talk Ben into returning home but he refuses to come home because he is sick of how William treats him.
Throughout the episode Swinton also goes through withdrawl from the drugs that he was forced to do in the last episode.
