NCIS (a spinoff of JAG) follows a government agency that investigates all crimes involving the navy or marines. Led by Leroy Jethro Gibbs the NCIS agents investigate crimes involving spies, kidnappers, murderers, and terrorists. This DVD set contains all 18 episodes of the fifth season.
As some of you already know, I am not a huge fan of crime dramas. There are two reasons why I am not a huge fan of the genre. First there are way too many crime dramas on the air today. Second, none of the crime dramas do anything new. These are actually two of the reasons that I never watched NCIS before receiving the fifth season in the mail. After watching the fifth season I would have to say that NCIS is another one of your typical crime dramas.
This doesn’t mean that NCIS is bad or great. It pretty much means that it really isn’t any different from any other crime dramas. The stories are very similar to the typical stories of crime dramas. The only difference is that there is the military twist to them.
Overall fans of the show or huge crime drama fans should really enjoy this DVD set. If you haven’t seen the previous four seasons of the show there really are no worries since it isn’t necessary to see the previous seasons to understand what is going on. Like almost every other crime drama the only thing you might miss by not seeing the previous seasons is character development and character relationships. These really don’t effect your enjoyment of the show though.
If you are a fan of the show I think you will really enjoy the special features. You get several making of videos that do a good job at looking behind the scenes of the show. If you ever wanted to see how the show was made you will probably find these special features to be quite enjoyable.
Even though I thought NCIS Season Five was pretty average, it doesn’t mean that you won’t enjoy it. If you either already like NCIS or you are a fan of crime dramas I don’t think you could go wrong with the fifth season of NCIS.
