Before I begin this review I need to tell anyone that I had not seen an episode of Reno 911! before I received this DVD set in the mail. Since I had never seen the show I really didn’t know what to expect. I had a good idea what the show would be like do to what most of the comedies on Comedy Central are like. After watching Reno 911! I would have to say that it really isn’t my type of comedy.

Plot

Reno 911! follows a police precinct in Reno, Nevada. If you have never seen Reno 911! the basis of the show is essentially a spoof of Cops with some Jerry Springer added in as well. The show mostly follows the daily activities at the police station. Why don’t we just say that this police department is far from normal. Pretty much every cop has their own problems and none of them could care less about what is politically correct. With all 16 season five episodes there is plenty of wacky cop action to go around.

Overall I didn’t find Reno 911! that funny. Obviously that is not a good thing since this is a comedy. Why didn’t I find it funny. I personally aren’t a fan of the humor used in this show. The best way to describe the humor is far from politically correct. The show essentially makes fun of everything and everyone. I personally aren’t a fan of this type of humor. This doesn’t mean the plot is terrible since if you like that type of humor you will probably really like the plot of Reno 911!. Enjoyment of the plot truly comes down to whether you like the type of humor.

Acting

There is nothing special in regard to acting. The acting isn’t bad but not great either. Essentially all the characters are stereotypes and they all do a decent job perpetuating their stereotype. If you are looking for original characters you won’t find any in Reno 911!. So the actors aren’t bad but none of them are really challenged with anything unique as far as their characters are concerned.

Visuals

There really isn’t anything to say as far visuals are concerned. They aren’t bad but are nothing special either. Essentially the visuals are quite a bit like what you would expect out of cops. To put it simply the visuals don’t really take the show to the next level but they don’t hurt the show either.

Special Features

Fans of the show should be happy with the DVD special features. There are three special features. First there is over 40 minutes of extended scenes. The extended scenes include Dangle and Wiegel at the Mr. McHuggle’s Warehouse, Clown Car Tragedy, Garcia and Junior Join a Militia, and Jackie’s Last Will and Testament. The second special feature deals with the characters on the show and is called “Cop Psychology: Inside the Minds of Reno’s Deputies”. The final special feature is a commentary. If you like the show you will like the special features but if you don’t like the show you won’t like the special features.

Final Thoughts

I personally didn’t like the fifth season of Reno 911! that much. It was mostly due to not liking the politically incorrect humor that the show is based on. Just because I didn’t like it doesn’t mean that other people won’t like the show. If you like politically incorrect humor you should like the fifth season of Reno 911! and I would suggest that you pick it up.
